Installing Binfer via AMI

Binfer is excited to announce that the BinferServer product is officially listed as an AMI that can be installed directly from the AWS marketplace to make installation and setup a breeze.

Outlined below are the steps necessary to setup an EC2 in your Amazon environment with BinferServer pre-installed.

Prerequisites

This installation guide starts with the following assumptions:

  • You have already contacted Binfer and have a valid BinferServer license and credentials
  • You have an AWS account already setup that can create EC2 instances

Creating the EC2 Instance

To begin, login to your AWS account.  The first step is to create the EC2 instance via Amazon’s marketplace.

  • First, access your EC2 dashboard via AWS.  Find and click the button Launch instance
  • You will be taken to a screen that says: “Step 1: Choose an Amazon Machine Image (AMI)”.  From this screen select Marketplace on the left-hand menu, then search Binfer using the textbox provided.  You should see a product that matches the picture below.

  •  Click the ‘Select’ button on the right side of the page to select this AMI.  When you do, a popup will appear showing you product information and the expected cost of running the software.  We do not add any charge for using the Binfer AMI, so the page will just show you the cost of the EC2 instance.
  • Once you have reviewed the attached information select ‘Continue’ in the popup.  You will next choose your EC2 instance type, we recommend the t3.medium instance in most cases.
  • From here, you will configure the EC2 as you normally would, based on your company’s security policies and decisions.  Please read the following section about EC2 Configuration Notes before finalizing your instance.
  • Once you have configured your instance launch it and connect!  The AWS interface will have the steps on how to connect to your newly created instance

EC2 Configuration Notes

If you are planning to use standard HTTP traffic, in your Security Group for the instance you must open port 1212 to TCP traffic for BinferServer to be accessible from outside the EC2.

If you are planning to use HTTPS traffic, a domain name for the instance is required and the Security Group for the instance must be configured to allow TCP traffic through port 443.

If you are not planning to set a domain for your Binfer instance, a static IP is required.

Configuring Binfer on the EC2

Once you have launched your instance and connected to it you just need to connect the BinferServer instance to your account to get started.

  • From the EC2 instance, launch a browser and connect to the following URL:

http://127.0.0.1:1212/b4/manage

  • Once the browser connects it will automatically redirect you to the Binfer configuration app to get you up and running
  • You can accept the default System and Data directory paths that show up during configuration or set a different path based on your use case.  Then click NEXT
  • On the second page you will be asked your instance type.  Unless otherwise noted, your instance is a Server instance.  You will then be asked for a username and password, please provide your Binfer credentials.
  • After entering your credentials, the app should configure itself and redirect you to the login screen

Congratulations! Your BinferServer instance is setup and ready to go, you can now login and begin using the Binfer instance.
